Active Start Welcome and First Skate

Sep. 11 - 2018

Welcome to the Spruce Grove Ringette Association!

My name is Dana Cyrenne, and I am the Active Start and U10 Step 1 Director.  To provide some general information and answer some common questions¦

Active Start (AS) is a beginner stage of ringette.  The program is based on the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD), which structures the learning and level of play in consideration of the athlete's developmental growth and learning stage.

At this level, the program focuses on having FUN and learning the basic skills of skating and ringette.  AS players are typically 5-6 years old who are new to the sport.

Maximum parent participation is encouraged to help promote the FUNdamentals of the sport.  We are in need of someone to take on the HEAD COACH position, so please consider helping out on the ice!  You really just need to know how to skate - the rest you can learn ;)

There is no evaluation process for the Active Start Division - rather the players are split up into teams, depending on the number of registrants.  The first skate scheduled for Sunday September 16, 3:15-4:15 @ the TRI-N arena

Ice times will be on a regular schedule, typically 1 hour Saturday morning, as well as every second Sunday, for an average of 3 ice times in 2 weeks.  The exact times for AS will be determined very soon, and I will send out the information when I have it.  Please continue to check the ice schedule on the SGRA website for time changes, however I will be posting them on the homepage as well.

AS is not included in the Black Gold League game schedule.  Exhibition games may be scheduled further into the season by the team managers, after the skills develop further.

General information regarding ringette equipment required can be found on the SGRA website under Parent Information.  Association game pants are not required at this stage.  Mandatory items include a ringette-specific face mask and neck guard.

There is much information regarding the association and the sport of ringette in general (including rules of play, etc) in the Parent Information Handbook.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions at ASdir@sprucegroveringette.com

Looking forward to a great ringette season!
