Introduction
Good Afternoon U10S1-2 Parents,
My name is Travis Carlson and I will be the head coach for this season. I wanted to send out an introductory email for everyone plus I have to get use to this RAMP platform. I'm used to SportsEngine in hockey but I look forward to what this platform could offer for team organization. I hope you have all seen updates on ice times for this weekend so we can get practicing as a team and hopefully meet as a group to map out what our year will look like.
I've talked to one parent that will be helping out as an assistant coach but I believe Anthony said their were a few more interested in being assistants so when you folks have time please contact me via email or text so we can connect before Saturday. It's also a good opportunity to take the E-learning for NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport module through coach.ca as they are free this week during National Coaches week.
We also need a manager, treasurer and volunteer/tournament coordinator(s). If you have some previous experience that is great but if you're interested in volunteering but worried that you don't have experience I can attest that it doesn't matter. I was a first time manager for my son's hockey team last year and there is a lot of support for learning the role so you'll be set up for success. Please let me know if you're are interested in either roles. At some levels I've seen the need for both a volunteer and a tournament coordinator and other years I've seen one person do both roles so I will leave them open to whatever kind of response we get.
I would like to have a meeting with you folks this weekend but I don't think Saturday will be good as we have to rush to get our son's hockey pictures after practice so I was thinking about Sunday after practice and meeting outside Stu Barnes and my wife and our Junior Coaches can keep the kids busy with activities outside. I like the idea of keeping the kids busy so parents aren't distracted and can get the info they need or answer all the questions they want. I'll keep you posted on that when we see each other in the dressing room on Saturday.
One last thing before Saturday is that I would like to hear the kids ideas for a team name so if you want to put the bug in their ear about it that would be great and once I get the names from them I'll talk with the coaches about how we'll go about picking the name.
I'm looking to promoting having fun this year especially with a lot of kids who are new to the sport and who are learning how to get comfortable skating. Skill development will be important as well as far as getting used to handling the rings, passing, shooting etc. but the rules will take a backseat for now until we get used to fundamentals.
I'm also looking forward to meeting all of you as well and I hope you get the most out of this experience as well.
